‘Unjust criticism on Shakespeare’
By : Mohterma Tabeer Ali
A study of the works of great playwright and theatrist William Shakespeare shows that the claim of the opponents of Shakespeare of being biased has no worth. These allegations seems quite unjustified and baseless as the great writer was not a biased one and instead he had been an enlightened and unbiaded writer. The study pinpoints that Shakespeare was truly a prolific playwright and some critics had advertently levelled allegations of excessive use of false wits, ambiguity and madness, in the case of Shakespeare.
The study clearly points out that the claim of Jhonson was unjustified that Shakespeare had used the corrupted language. An in depth study could bring to light the truth in this regard. In here, a question arises
whether the claim of usage of corrupted language is apparent or not?
In Hamlet we can figure out the madness or procrastination of Hamlet when he uses to say “to be or not to be”, but in the end, we can evaluate that this kind of procrastinations indicate on final destination wherein Hamlet destined to his fate, and exposed cunningness of his uncle Claudiious.
We might say that, a kind of sombreness makes a deep sense and Shakespeare can find himself defensive that a kind of ambiguity and tangledness then enables him to clear his confusion makes more sense. Poetic element is another intelligible feature of shakespearean style.
In fact the poetic style can precisely be found in any of his piece that apparently has been written in a prose form. This style, of course irresistibly enhances the beauty of expression and style as well. In Hamlet ” to be or not to be”, a famous phrase or quotation, puts forth the reader into deep contemplation, wherein one can rightly think that what comes to next. We could see further development in poetic treatment when he generalises “Frailty thy name is women”, a kind of expression which shows laothsome , deploring and deep hatred for his mother which certainly creates rhyme and rhythm in his work. It is only personal view of a rather frustrated son that helps him out to come out of a crisis in psychological terms. The artistic and poetic knitting and style of expression by Shakespeare have not only produced a powerful impact but a kind of of decency. It also shows a sensibility in the format and form of expression as well. Agreeably, his wits , ambiguities and eloquent language are certainly not convenient to everyone. Saint John Ervine, a critic once mensefully declared that his language proved to be lofty and elevated.
Most of the people comprehended it is archaic and out of vogue, somehow it is difficult to measure a bit.
Look at “Hamlet” that states: “The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” We can observe the articulation in this line and can find the whole out, in the Novel . Yes, in this line he has talked about his misfortune, yet it seems ardous to understand, but if a reader endeavours for a little, it would not be to hard to get the actual point. However, if a reader translates the lines into some other topical language, obvious, the reader would lose the actual meaning and remains futile. From the above studies it is obvious that shakespearean poetic expression is not only remarkable but creates comprehendable impacts in all time. His concocted wits and other trigers have great impact on the mind of the readers.
The characters show the deep emotions of fear of death, hypocrisy and other feelings, at times which further enhances shakespearean poetic vision respectively. Undoubtedly, his granduer style un- fasten all the tide knots and made us dive into deep concentration. At this point we might confess that his style may differ from his contemporaries and other writers as well. Surely it is said that he has a mind of sharp intellectual learned person and certainly a pensive poet.
